On Sunday, February 28, KU Hillel hosted its second ever “Camp Hillel”. Ten Hillel student leaders volunteered and hosted the Lawrence Jewish Community Center (LJCC) Religious School students. The first Camp Hillel was hosted back in September, and due to its great turn out and response, KU Hillel and the Lawrence Jewish Community Center combined their efforts to make the event possible for a second time.
Ben Davis, teacher at the LJCC and KU Hillel student leader, accompanied the children. Davis said that “the parents and kids couldn't stop talking about how much they loved doing it” following the first time the religious school participated in Camp Hillel last semester.
“This time was even better,” Davis added. “I think it's important for these kids, who aren't part of a larger Jewish community, to get a taste for what Jewish life can look like on a larger scale and for when they are older and in college.”
