Senior Elizabeth Altman from St. Louis, Mo. went to volunteer for KU Hillel’s Camp Hillel program.
“We had some games and coloring pages for the kiddos to do throughout the day, which was a fun way to experience the festival,” Altman said.
Camp Hillel is an annual program where KU Hillel students will host children from the Lawrence JCC religious school for a morning of activities. Altman also said the experience was a good way for her to learn more about the Jewish community in Kansas City.
“It was also very cool to see how many KU alum were there and how many were a part of Hillel when they went to school there,” Altman said. “Overall it was just super great to see how big the Jewish community is in KC.”
Many other KU students traveled up to festival to volunteer with Hillel or see family and friends who performed or were hosting tables.
“Being surrounded by so many Jews in one place and experiencing all the different arts that people had to offer was my favorite part,” junior Abby Chargo, from Minneapolis, said. “And the Kosher food of course.”
