This year, KU Hillel has started a new “Network Initiative” to more effectively engage Jewish students around campus. Under the guidance of senior Evan Traylor who oversees the initiative and also serves as KU Hillel’s Engagement Coordinator, a group of four interns Lizzie Altman, Ethan Scharf, Becca Adler, and Adam Siegler, work with “other student leaders to identify and mobilize their networks made of their friend groups,” Traylor said.
“For example, last month we organized a Shabbat dinner for all the Jewish members of the KU Marching Band, a dinner for Herzl Camp campers and staff members, and on Sept. 1, I organized an ice cream event for Jewish students in the Honors Program,” he said.
Ethan Scharf a University sophomore and one of the interns for KU Hillel’s Network Initiative said a main part of his internship is to engage his own network and social circles in order to expand the overall initiative. “It's important to tap into social networks to get a variety of people interested in coming to events,” Scharf said. “I’m excited to see what more there is to come this year.”
