This summer KU Hillel staff will participate in several professional development opportunities hosted by Hillel International.
As an organization, Hillel International is extremely dedicated to the professional development of the more than 1,000 employees who work for Hillel around the world. In 2016, Hillel received a $38 million multi-year gift from the Marcus Foundation to support ongoing Talent Grants for Hillel professionals.
Participants of Hillel Dwell will spend their mornings partaking in deep dive learning sessions with dozens of additional activities available in the afternoon. Swartz will be participating in the Eat Ivrit morning deep dive where she will learn Hebrew by making and sharing food with her cohort.
“I grew up a camp kid,” said Swartz, who spent eight summers as a camper at Herzl Camp. “I am so excited to unplug for a week and just have fun and learn from my friends in the Hillel world.”
Later this summer, KU Hillel staff will also be participating in the Hillel International Professional Institute in Orlando. Executive Director, Suzy Sostrin and Director of Development, Michelle Cole will be partaking in a seven-month intensive fundraising training hosted by the The Fundraising School at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy that will kick off this summer.
“This has been an incredible year for KU Hillel,” Cole said. “I am looking forward to participating in the training and learning new ways to enhance our development program for KU Hillel.”
At the same conference, Rabbi Neal Schuster will be leading the training for the new Rabbis and Senior Jewish Educators at Hillels across the country. Melanie Edwards, KU Hillel’s recently hired Engagement Associate, will also be at Professional Institute meeting and connecting with her cohort of Hillel International Springboard Fellows.
All KU Hillel staff is extremely excited for the professional development opportunities this summer and look forward to bringing what they learn back to Lawrence for another great school year in the fall.
