Welcome Back Shabbat is always an exciting evening when Jewish students at the University of Kansas join together to celebrate the first Shabbat of the new school year. Last year, more than 100 students attended the Welcome Back Shabbat dinner and felt that it was a great way to kick off the year. KU Hillel is looking forward to another successful Shabbat dinner this year.
“We are so excited for Welcome Back Shabbat this year,” Suzy Sostrin, KU Hillel Executive Director, said. “It is always such a joy to reconnect with students when they are back on campus and meet our new freshmen students who are just beginning their Jayhawk journeys.”
This year, KU Hillel will partner with the KU Student Alumni Network (SAN) for the Welcome Back Shabbat event. SAN connects with students in many social and professional settings and collaborates with lots of great campus partners to produce events and programming to help foster Jayhawk connections.
Stanton is excited to strengthen the partnership between SAN and KU Hillel and has already been discussing future partnership opportunities with KU Hillel staff including hosting a Home Football Fridays event and partnering on Bagels and Basketball, one of KU Hillel’s largest student events.
Students attending the Welcome Back Shabbat on August 24th can participate in an interactive service lead by Rabbi Neal Schuster featuring engaging musical tunes and a meaningful d’var Torah to get everyone excited for the upcoming year. For dinner, students can expect a range of delicious food from local food trucks and vendors.
