This Saturday, February 20, hundreds of KU students, alumni and community members will gather at The Bottleneck in Lawrence to watch the Kansas Jayhawks take on the Kansas State Wildcats for the Sunflower Showdown.
This year, the Sunflower Showdown edition of Bagels and Basketball will feature a variety of delicious foods, a bagels and basketball themed photo booth, and a special live halftime show performed by the Bar Band, an independent Lawrence band consisting of various brass players. Starting at 3:30 p.m., there will be a happy hour for alumni and students 21 years and older at KU Hillel.
Senior and KU Hillel Events Intern Rachel Frish said she loves Bagels and Basketball because it combines three of her favorite things: Bagels, Hillel, and KU Basketball.
“It's a unique event because it's not hosted at Hillel or the Kansas Union. A lot of the Hillel events during the year consist of weekly Shabbat services, Shabbat dinners, or leadership classes and meetings. This event is completely different because it's just about getting together, watching a basketball game, and taking an evening off to enjoy each other's company,” Frish said.
The Bottleneck will open 30 minutes prior to tip-off at 5:00 p.m. The price of admission to the event is $5 ahead of time, or $7 at the door. Tickets can be bought on KU Hillel’s website.
