Rebeka Durham, KU junior from Memphis, Tennessee, planned the event with Melissa Kingston, KU Hillel’s Program Director. Michael Portman, KU junior from Garland, Texas, and president of the student executive board for KU Chabad, also helped to coordinate the event
“It was one of my goals for the year as the Israel Advocacy Intern for KU Hillel,” said Durham. “We reached out to KU Chabad and several students from both organizations helped come up with ideas as well as volunteered to help out during the event.”
Kosher hotdogs, vegetable kebabs, Israeli salad, hummus, and pita, along with chips and fruit were served. Along with the abundance of food, students were able to participate in a variety of lawn games as well as take photos in front of a backdrop of the Kotel while holding up a sign that said why they love Israel.
“Overall, I think it went great and the atmosphere was wonderful,” Portman said. “It was nice seeing everybody come together to celebrate such an important day.”
