Rock Chalk Shabbat is a true community experience bringing together over 500 students, parents, alumni and community members for an incredible Shabbat celebration. “Jewish students at KU are so fortunate to have the remarkable staff and programs of Hillel to enrich their college experiences,” says Rock Chalk Shabbat committee co-chair Stephanie Kavanaugh. “The energy and community spirit I felt at Rock Chalk Shabbat inspired me to become more involved with KU Hillel and with this amazing event.” Kavanaugh is joined by Sheryl Kaplan and David Katz as co-chairs of Rock Chalk Shabbat.
Over 150 KU Hillel student leaders are involved in making Rock Chalk Shabbat a huge success. “Preparing for Rock Chalk Shabbat is challenging and time consuming, but it is very rewarding to see the end result. Rock Chalk Shabbat is an incredible celebration for students, but the evening is as much for our parents, community members and supporters as it is for us,” says KU Hillel Development Intern Stacy Bernstein.
Rock Chalk Shabbat has also emerged as a fantastic fundraiser for Hillel. This year, KU Hillel has been given a unique opportunity to raise significant funds for Jewish Life at KU. Thanks to a generous donor, all increased Rock Chalk Shabbat gifts this year from 2014 will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $10,000. Rock Chalk Shabbat will take place on October 23rd, 2015 in the Kansas Union. To become a Rock Chalk Shabbat sponsor click here.
