Rock Chalk Shabbat will begin at 5:30 p.m. with hors d’oeuvres, followed by services and dinner in the Kansas Union. More than 150 students are involved in planning the evening, leading services and serving dinner. “Rock Chalk Shabbat is the culmination of all the best things about KU Hillel. Surrounded by friends and family, you feel the vibrancy of our community,” says incoming Senior Tori Luecking. “My parents come in town for the event and I love sharing my KU Hillel experience with them. While my last Rock Chalk Shabbat as an undergraduate is approaching, I know that I will return as an alumni and that it will always hold a special place in my heart,” she adds.
This year the fundraising event is being co-chaired by board members Stephanie Kavanaugh, Sheryl Kaplan, and David Katz. “It’s wonderful to get insight from parents, alumni, and students in planning this large-scale event,” says KU Hillel Development Director, Amy Sandler.
Numerous levels of sponsorships and donations are being sought for Rock Chalk Shabbat: $10,000 Championship, $5,400 Final Four, $3,600 Wave the Wheat, $1,800 Crimson and Blue, $540 Rock Calk, $360 Jayhawk and $180 Table Sponsor. Gifts are not limited to these sponsorship levels; gifts of any size are appreciated. Rock Chalk Shabbat is underwritten by a grant from the Jewish Heritage Foundation; it generates roughly $100,000 annually to build and sustain Jewish life at KU.
