While KU Hillel has hosted its’ annual Bagels and Basketball event for many years, this year was the most successful yet with over 250 people in attendance. Bagels and Basketball took place at the Bottleneck, a music venue in Lawrence located directly across the street from KU Hillel on Saturday, March 4th.
“It was so fun that it's an event that brings a bunch of people together to watch Jayhawks,” junior Lizzie Altman said. “It’s a time when people who don’t always come to Hillel can still come and enjoy what Hillel provides.”
During the halftime show, the travelling Lawrence Bar Band performed and students also had the opportunity to take photos with friends in a photobooth. Hillel also hosted a pre-event for students 21+ at Hillel prior to the game for students to mingle with friends before the big event.
While Hillel aims to provide a fun event for Jewish students to come together, Bagels and Basketball opens its doors to all KU students and family members to create a place where Jewish students can lead and engage with their community.
“Bagels and Basketball is such a unique event that Hillel puts on,” Stoller said. “This year more than ever we saw that Bagels and Basketball isn't just an event for the Jewish community anymore - it's for the KU community.”
