Leadership Structure

KU Hillel strives to take an innovative approach to student leadership. The Student Leadership structure is listed below:

KU Hillel Executive Board Responsibilities

• Weekly Executive Board meetings
• Meet with staff member(s) every other week
• Staff at least 1 hour per week at the Hillel Cubicle in the Student Involvement and Leadership Center
• Regularly attend and support Hillel events
• Host (greet, do announcements, get people to lead blessings) one Shabbat every other month
• Attend required leadership training events
• Oversee implementation of KU Hillel’s mission
• Serve as representative of Hillel to the campus community and the community at large
• Respond to all Hillel communications and act accordingly in a timely manner
• Take minutes at board meetings 2-3 times a semester
• Lead board meetings 2-3 times a semester
• Each Board member is also responsible for one program area and one managerial area- to be decided by board members after elected

Program Areas:
Social
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the social groups and program areas including, but not limited to: 21+, Graduate Students, Maccabi, Heatin’ Up With Hillel, Bagels and Basketball
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for social programming
Israel
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the Israel groups and program areas including, but not limited to: Israel Leadership Group, Jayhawks for Israel, Birthright, Love Israel
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for Israel programming
Tzedek
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the Tzedek groups and program areas including, but not limited to: Everett Tzedek Project, Alternative Spring Break
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for Tzedek programming
Religious
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the religous groups and program areas including, but not limited to: Kesher, KOACH, Rock Chalk Shabbat
-- Form and meet monthly with a Shabbat committee and Holiday committee
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for religious programming
Arts/Culture
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the arts/culture groups and program areas including, but not limited to: Sherim Netzim, Y’didot, Jewish Learning, Film Series
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for arts/culture programming
Leadership
-- Help develop, support and serve as a liaison to the leadership groups and program areas including, but not limited to: FYSH, BLA, Jewish Leadership Roundtable, Jewish Caucus
-- Partner with staff to create an overall vision for leadership programming

Managerial Areas:

Marketing
-- Convene the PR committee
-- Ensure Hillel has weekly ads in the University Daily Kansan
-- Manage Facebook communication
Campus relations- Administrative
-- Serve as voting member on the KU Hillel Board of Directors and attend all Board of Directors meetings
-- Represent KU Hillel on the KU President’s Roundtable and attend all Roundtable meetings
-- Represent KU Hillel to the university and foster relationships with university leaders
Campus relations- Multiculturalism
-- Represent KU Hillel to the multicultural community at KU
-- Foster relationships with the students and staff of the Multicultural Resource Center
Engagement
-- Work to engage Jewish students to be a part of Jewish life at KU
-- Identify unengaged or underengaged students and strategize ways to connect them to Jewish life
-- Help identify potential leaders for student groups and committees
Historian
-- Take pictures, or ensure pictures are taken, at Hillel events
-- Organize Hillel scrapbook using pictures, newspaper articles, etc.
-- Upload pictures and newspaper articles to Hillel website
Community Relations
-- Serve as voting member on the KU Hillel Board of Directors and attend all Board of Directors meetings
-- Represent KU Hillel to the Lawrence and Kansas City Jewish communities
-- Represent KU Hillel to the International Hillel community
